The main objective is to reduce dependency on imported petroleum. The specific objectives of the policy include: providing a stable, reliable and economic supply of energy, reducing dependency on imported fuels, promoting increased utilization of domestic resources and ensuring sustainable energy use. It proposes a strategic framework with short- and medium- term goals for the period 1994 – 2004 for satisfying future energy demand (to 2004) in electricity, transportation, industry & mining, residential, commercial & public, and agriculture & fishing sectors, using new and renewable sources of energy and more efficient use of imported fuel.The main objective is to reduce dependency on imported petroleum.
