National Energy-From-Waste Policy 2010 - 2030

A sub-policy of the National Energy Policy. The main objective is to acheive affordable and clean energy from waste that contributes to Jamaica’s energy security and efficient management of waste. The policy comprises a Strategic Framework setting out the short-, medium- and long- term goals, strategies and actions for policy implementation and an Institutional Framework describing the roles and responsibilities of the various stakeholders. The goals of the Strategic Framework are: Development of an energy‐from‐waste sector as part of Jamaica's renewable energy (RE) sector, contributing to the achievement of 2030 RE targets; Promotion of modern, environmentally friendly technology; Safe and effective solid-waste management; Establishment of governance, institutional, legal and regulatory frameworks for waste-to-energy generation.
