Saramaria earned an M.Sc. and a B.Sc. in Political History from the University of Turku in Finland. As an academic, Saramaria’s research involved an Evaluation of the Finnish Government's position on the economic sanctions against South Africa between 1985 and 1991 and A comparative study of the French newspaper coverage of the Tunisian "Jasmine Revolution".
Her research interests lie in international relations and development, and human rights. She is presently conducting research which examines the economic and societal cost of sexuality-based discrimination in Jamaica.
She has worked as a Project/Research Assistant at Premix Oy, Finland, where she assisted with the writing of the company's history by conducting an independent historical research on the early years of the company including its time during World War II. During her time at Finland's Permanent Representation to the European Union, Saramaria assisted counsellors in charge of trade and policy development for Africa, the Caribbean and the Pacific.
